PRESS RELEASE
3D Scanning Becomes Fashionable; UNITED NUDE™ High-heels Designed with Rapidform
Seoul, South Korea – May 19, 2010, INUS Technology (www.rapidform.com) today announced that United Nude (www.unitednude.com) has created a new line of high fashion shoes called “Lo Res” using Rapidform software and a 3D scanner. The Lo Res, which stands for Low Resolution, is part of a new semi-automatic design method by United Nude. An object is digitally scanned into a 3D computer model and regenerated into various resolutions. Each object can be described by a series of 3D points (point cloud data) and when connecting these points describing the shape of an object, triangles appear (mesh data). Lowering the 3D resolution (meaning fewer points and therefore bigger triangles), the object becomes more fragmented, changing its character in the process. One of the most important factors for the Lo-Res product line is that when lowering the 3D resolution, the original shape must be maintained, including the designer’s intended aesthetics. United Nude turned to Rapidform’s best-in-class polygon decimation function to meet these needs.
When the designer enters a target number or a certain ratio, Rapidform XOR automatically decimates the polygon model preserving the original shape and boundaries. Rapidform XOR also allows the designer to easily forecast the final decimated model in real-time so that he can select a model that best fits his design intentions. The Lo-Res project is truly an automatic and revolutionary design methodology that recycles existing designs to create totally new, and very fashionable, products.
Rem D Koolhaas, the Creative Director & Founder of UNITED NUDE is satisfied with running business in partnership with INUS Technology and wishes to keep continuous relationship for the coming projects in the future. He said: “It is impressive to see how Rapidform’s 3D scanning technology can be applied to fashion design field. The results from Rapidform inspire my designer’s instinct, which leads me to continuous creative art works.”
Dr. Calvin Hur, the Senior Vice president of INUS Technology is also very proud of the co-work with United Nude. He says, “It’s a crossover project, engineering to art. We’ve enjoyed working together with United Nude and it is an honor to join this fantastic design project thanks to United Nude’s pioneering spirit. Rapidform is used in thousands of different, interesting ways every day, but it’s always gratifying to see a unique new use of this advanced technology.”
The United Nude brand, sold in over 35 countries worldwide, is planning to launch their new 2010 product lines including Lo Res at the opening ceremony of their second flagship store in New York’s Noho District located at 25 Bond Street on May 20th, 2010.
